In spring, the city shows its light, almost poetic side. Between neighbourhood streets, parks and vantage points, Zurich blooms in white and pink – and for a short time becomes the perfect backdrop for flower photos that say more than a thousand emojis.
Cherry blossoms in Zurich: beautiful, short-lived and surprisingly urban
Depending on the weather, cherry blossoms begin to bloom in Zurich from mid-March onwards. The blossoms do not appear everywhere at the same time – and that is precisely what makes them so exciting. While buds are still waiting to bloom in one place, another is already in full bloom. This natural spectacle often lasts only a few days, sometimes barely a week. If you catch the right moment, you will experience Zurich from a particularly aesthetic side.
Magnolias, cherry plums and Japanese ornamental cherries – also known as sakura – add delicate accents to the cityscape. Sometimes in the middle of the neighbourhood, sometimes nestled in historic parks. Ideal for spontaneous walks, quiet observations or even your next WhatsApp status.
Where are the flowers blooming right now? Check out the map with the current bloom status
To ensure that beautiful photos are not left to chance, Zurich Tourism provides a continuously updated online map showing the bloom status. It clearly shows where the cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom – and where they are expected to bloom in the next few days. Perfect for spontaneously deciding where to go for a walk.
A blossom hotspot just a few minutes' walk from the hotel: Rieterpark
For those who like to take it easy, one of Zurich's most beautiful spring locations is just a few minutes' walk from the B2 Hotel Zurich: Rieterpark.
As the largest park in the city, it combines historic garden architecture with sweeping views of the lake and the Alps. In spring, the grounds around the Rietberg Museum are transformed into a tranquil sea of blossoms. Magnolias, Japanese cherry blossoms and cherry plums add elegant splashes of colour among the old trees and spacious lawns.
